Lip Gloss is a popular alternative to matte lipstick. Lip gloss makes your lips look fuller, healthier and even younger. However, if you don't use it correctly or in the right shade, lip gloss can be a look killer, here's how to apply lip gloss correctly.
Pick the right shade of lip gloss for your event and skin color. Light complexions need lighter lip gloss colors with pink/blue bases for daytime while darker complexions need deeper richer colors like reds. Stay away from orange undertones as these tend to look unnatural on just about everyone.
Soften your lips. While brushing your teeth or in the shower, use a toothbrush to lightly go over your lips to slough off any dead skin. Apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) immediately afterwards and allow to soak in, especially at night.
Put on your base lip color or lip liner (if needed) before putting on your lip gloss. Put a dab of lip gloss in the center of your bottom lip, this area catches the most light. Rub your lips together to smooth the gloss out naturally on the rest of your lips. Reapply throughout the day as needed.
